Soccsksargen Literature:
Indarapatra at Sulayman
Radia Indarapatra is an ancestor of Bantugan, a renowned epic hero from the Maranao epic Darangan, based on the Ramayana. This story of Rajah Indarapatra, mythological hero of Maguindanao, and his brother, Sulayman, is based on a myth.
The main idea of "Indarapatra and Sulayman" is the willingness of the heroes in the epic to sacrifice their lives to make other people be saved. Also, the theme of the epic is the proper usage of abilities to combat and overcome elements that can cause chaos and destruction to the area.
The Legend of Mount Cotabato
The legend of Cotabato is about Mt.Timako. In the early days of the Spanish expeditions in Mindanao, Bantugan asked his son, Balatama, to go and ask for the hand of the Sultan's daughter for his father to marry. Balatama did and soon Bantugan and the princess Bai Sethi Meriam were married. They had a child named Fatima who was very pretty but a restless child. She could run at the age of eight months, speak at the age of ten months and catch dragonflies and pick flowers at the age of one. She would run in and out of the gardens, meadows and forests and climb mountains. “My Fatima" or "Tima ko pedoli den!" means "My Fatima, come home!" The longest and the loudest call was when Fatima climbed the hill nearby and watched the battle between the marines and the Spanish General and the sea warriors of Bantugan, Fatima's father. That was many years ago and the people in that mountain never forget the call of Fatima's mother.'Tima ko, Tima ko!" At present, the mountain is called Timako. It stands at the mouth of the Rio Grande River and guards the entrance to Cotabato City.
