Product by
cyrusdavid0827About this product
Baybayin is the ancient script used by the indigenous peoples of the Philippines before the arrival of the Spanish colonizers in the 16th century. It is also known as Alibata, a term coined during the early 20th century. The script is syllabic, with each character representing a consonant-vowel combination. Baybayin characters are predominantly straight lines and are written from left to right.
Baybayin was commonly used for inscriptions on various surfaces such as bamboo, wood, and leaves. It played a significant role in documenting important information and cultural practices of the pre-colonial Filipino societies.
