Here are some simple and fun ways to describe math concepts for kindergarteners
1. Numbers
• Numbers are symbols we use to count things, like 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on.
• Example: “How many apples are in the basket? Let’s count them together!”
2. Shapes
• Shapes are all around us!
• Circle: Looks like a ball or a coin.
• Square: Has 4 sides that are all the same.
• Triangle: Has 3 sides.
• Example: “A slice of pizza looks like a triangle!”
3. Addition
• Adding means putting things together to make more.
• Example: “If you have 2 apples and I give you 1 more, now you have 3 apples!”
4. Subtraction
• Subtracting means taking things away.
• Example: “If you have 5 candies and eat 2, how many are left? You have 3 candies now!”
5. Comparing
• Bigger and Smaller: Comparing sizes or amounts.
• Example: “Which is bigger, your toy car or your teddy bear?”
• More and Less: Comparing numbers.
• Example: “Who has more cookies?”
6. Patterns
• Patterns repeat in the same way.
• Example: “Red, blue, red, blue—what comes next?”
7. Sorting
• Sorting means putting things into groups that are the same.
• Example: “Let’s sort the blocks by color! All the red ones go here, and the blue ones go there.”
These concepts help kids learn about math in a fun and engaging way!
