The Arabic alphabet consists of 28 letters, all representing consonants. Some letters, such as Alif (ا), Waw (و), and Yaa (ي), can also function as long vowels in certain contexts. Unlike English, Arabic is written from right to left and is cursive, meaning that most letters connect to one another. Each letter has up to four forms: isolated, initial, medial, and final, depending on its position in a word.
